My name is Stacey King and I am a Glass Addict.
It’s not my fault. I tried to get away. It started small and took over everything. I work with it, I teach it, I dream it, and I would eat it if it wouldn’t kill me.
Glass has held my fascination for as long as I can remember.
It’s ability to capture light and shadow. It’s permanence of shape, unless altered by force or fire, have drawn me in since childhood. I have been working in different mediums all my life: paint, metalwork, casting, mold making, and jewelry in all forms. I keep coming back to glass.
I was fortunate to have a creative genius for a Grandmother. One of the lessons I remember most was that you use whatever is at hand to achieve the look you want; whether it be a brush or your fingernail. There were no limits put on my imagination. My Grandmother recently passed away and I have been reflecting on the gifts she gave me… There are no limits. Imagine it. Figure out how to do it. Get it done. The process may lead to new visions and ideas. Embrace the creativity.
I am also blessed with a job that allows for exploration of new ideas. Teaching others how to work with glass continues to remind me there are no limits to people’s imaginations. The creative atmosphere has helped me to remain open to the concept of “Try it, it might work.” I have been pleasantly surprised on several occasions when the thought “No way is that going to come out right.” Turned into “Wow is that cool!”
I hope to never stop learning and to teach others to remain open to their own inner creative genius.
